Wow, it has been awhile since I visited and put down my thoughts on HL.
A lot has happened. Since we got our actual shirts, which are really cool we have been going crazy busy. In August we were part of several events showcasing our shirts and everyone liked them. In September and October we were busy marketing and telling our story to many outlets.
In November we went to a party for the Latin Grammy's and that was way cool and then we went to the Latin Grammy's . Wow, what a ride it has been. We have been in LA and in Big D promoting on TV our shirts . Viva HL
We were invited to a high profile network to be on several spots and we met some relly cool people.
We were happy to go to LA because our daughter is at LMU there and we get to see her at the same time.
We have a new President who I hope can help the USA come back to life and by the time anyone reads this I am so stuffed with Turkey. But I have much to be thankful for.
Who knows where this will lead us but we are on a journey and know the the Latino way of life is important to us and to many here in the USA and to many people all over.

The Shirts arrive!!!
Well on August 1st at 11:00 am our shirts arrived . Finally, but the wait was worth it. They look great and we are very excited to get them. Now we are waiting on shirts from El Salvador.
One of the many things we have done is to make sure that our suppliers/manufacturers are good employers. In other words they treat their employees good and they do not employ children. One way of doing this is to make sure they are certified . Some large companies require that the companies they do business with are Wrap Certified. By meeting this requiremet they ensure their clients that they are doing the right thing.
We we now have a stocked warehouse... I guess we better figure out how we are taking this to market.

What a day !!!
Well, the today's fashion shoot is behind us, what a day it was. Filled with energy and with emotion. Arturo, our photographer was awesome and all of the shirts looked great. I was really quite amazed at how well it went.
But the best part was the models, they were AMAZING!!! I really did not know what to expect, I actually had no preconcieved idea of how the models would look or work with the tee shirts. But maybe having no certain expectation was good. All of the models did such an amazing job, Ainsley, Thomas, Danny, Bianca, and Maggie. Oh... how they looked great. They were Americas next Top Models, and they don't even know it.
The day went fast and full, all of us played a role. I was interviewed and was probably the worst at it. I look awful in front of the camera. Boy did I pick a good time to grow out my hair. It was wacky most of the day. I usually keep my hair short and neat. But about 2 months ago, I decided to grow it out long. Not pony tail long ,but just long and fuller. I guess its that almost turning 49 thing. You know I don't want to grow up or ever grow old. But I know it will happen
Anyhow, my Laura was interviewed as were my Andy and my Maggie. By the way, Andrew and Maggie both amazed me today with their people skills and their ability to lead. Both are growing into incredible adults. Oh my Laura, I could not be here without her in so many ways.
She is, and always will be more than I ever deserved to have in life. I think God probably meant better for her, but I hope he or she doesn't change his or her mind.
Arturo was great, he worked with us so well. Guess how I found him -- my mother in law. My dear sweet mother in law. Arturo is married to a daughter of good friends of my in laws. My mother in law , Mama R. said "You have got to meet Arturo!" and boy am I glad she did.
The stylist for the day was Jonas and he too was very talented. He, along with Arturo, does a lot of work for Neimans and we were very lucky to have him, He took flat shirts and gave them life and depth and texture. The HL shirts showed very well with Jonas' touch.
The makeup artist Ray and the Stylist Melissa they were great as well.
Yes it was a long day but so much was accomplished. HL really came alive today and was born. Yea it was sort of like giving birth with lots of labor pains along the way.
I am more scared this evening than I was this morning. I am so unsure of what I am doing. I am risking a lot. But guess what --- I decided to do another photo shoot next week.
Yes, you read that right, again, otra vez, un vez mas. Yo no se porque, yo creo que estoy loco. Yo se que estoy loco. Pero tengo Fe y tengo mi famila y todos creamos que "Si Se Puede."
In other words -- I am crazy, but I still believe and all of my family believes that "Yes We Can"
I hope I know what I am doing. I guess I can change my mind, I will sleep on it.
You know Laura, told Rebecca and I a story this morning about how some people encounter walls and a person can either fall or break the wall or climb over the wall. We we still have a lot of climbing to do, but I am up for it.
By the way, our PR team Rebecca Rodriguez and Beth Henkel are amazing. They as so much are part of the HL team. They bring so much talent and energy. I am so lucky to have found them. I am trying to surround myself with people smarter than me, ( well that's everyone) but these two , Gracias a Dios.
Its been a full day, But boy has it been good one!

Fashion shoot noon
Wow, so much is going on here, Arturo and Jonas are about through with the tabletop of the shirts and soon we will begin with models. It is going well and very fast.
I am very happy with the models, they are all great, they look good in the shirts and they are the right age.
I have decided however to have another fashion shoot, and this is one I really want to do where we have a lot of cultures and diversity. Something that really speaks to "We are all one under the same Sun" I think today and next week will be great and I also feel still really scared making all these decisions. I am risking a lot. There is a saying, I guess a Dicho haha -- nothing ventured nothing gained. I hope a lot is gained because I am venturing a lot. This morning my mother in law, my suegra said to me that both my father and father in law would be proud of me. I hope so, I just want to create a company that my family and the community can be proud of . Something that will give back to the community. I know that sound so corny but it is someting I believe strongly in.
In some ways this has been a difficult day , but I am having fun.

Today is the day we have our first fashion shoot. I am excited and nervous and a little scared.
HL is fast becoming very real. We have 5 models, maybe more, who we will photograph in our shoot today. Let's hope it all goes well, I will check in later in the day to update what is going on .
We have a great photographer, Arturo Rodriquez. He is amazing and I am so glad he is helping us with this. We, the HL team is also being video taped as the day unfolds . Lets see how it goes.

Well I have just returned from a week sabbatical, resting to gear up and get back to business.
I continue today to read in the Dallas Morning New about the economy and I wonder if I am really doing the right thing. It is very scary to start something new and to change, ( I hate change, but I think everyone does.) But change has to happen. I struggle with making sure I am doing the right thing.
Anyhow I must move forward, with HL and with my dream of turning this into a reality. Who knows it might just work.
A lot of people believe it will work so I guess I have a lot of people depending on me. I stay crazy busy in all of my work but I really like what I do and so, I always work in some form or fashion.
I heard from Guatemala this past week and they are still not done with the screen printing. I just hope we can keep on schedule since we are schedule to ship from Guatemala on July 21, 2008. I must admit to getting very frustrated at time. The funny thing is that when I had this idea in December of 2006 I thought this would take about 6 months. HA HA.
There is still so much to do. I have my son Andrew helping me to set up our office and to handle the web site construciton with our developers. I just hope we can get there.
It is weird for me to write these things down but in a way I really do like it.
Until Next time

Creating Hecho Latino has been like watching a new child being born. From its original inception and incubation, our entire team has nurtured it along the way. Hecho Latino hopes to create culture awareness and apprecaition of all cultures. HL hopes to honor the traditions of our forefathers by bringing new life to dichos we have all grown up with. Saying that reminds of the past, sayings that will remind us of where we came from and where we are going.
